Anzac Pride
Title: ‘Anzac Pride’
Medium: Graphite and Charcoal on 183gms Arches paper
Dimensions: (wxh) 265 x 380mm
With war planes lying as ruins in the bush at the top of Australia, one is reminded every ANZAC Day (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) of what an important part the indigenous brothers of Australia played in keeping Australia safe. Without their efforts it may be a different country today. They are proud of their contribution and we, the generation of today, are indebted and grateful. They deserve our honour.
In this portrait done elegantly in graphite and charcoal, Uncle Awati, an elder in the Bamaga community, proudly wears his medals each ANZAC Day. His fellow soldiers, family and community members join him in remembering…Lest we forget.
